The Chassis Assembly Pallet is a unique 2 level Patent Pending
way to kit and simplify physical assembly of a 19 inch rackmount
chassis. The standard Chassis Assembly Pallet supports only 19
inch rackmount chassis. Additionally, Bliss can custom build for
almost any size sheetmetal chassis that requires assembly.
The standard base pallet is made of conductive ESD safe fiberglass
composite and molded with a 1/2 inch side. The Chassis Assembly
Pallet has a sheetmetal frame with an ESD safe padded ledge which
creates an elevated surface to hold a 19 inch rackmount chassis above
the pallet surface while protecting the chassis from scratches. This
allows for pre kitting the entire assembly offline with the use of
Bliss handling carts or racks. The sheetmetal frame is also removable.
Use
The kitting operator loads all the loose components onto the base
pallet, Putting the components in the order that they will be
assembled in with the last component towards the back and the first
in the front, then the metal 19 inch chassis on the elevated
surface. this entire 19 inch Chassis Assembly Pallet then is pushed
down a standard conveyor line or a Bliss FLEXconveyor line from
assembly station to assembly station where various assembly
operations are completed one at a time. The components for each
station's assembly are already on the pallet during the kitting
operation which simplifies the entire assembly process.
Advantage
This method cuts down the floor space required for this operation
typicaly by half and reduces the assembly process time of the 19 inch
rackmount chassis by more than half.
Non Lean methods (Kanban)
Many plants currently use a Kanban system. This is typically a 2 bin
system part storage system. One bin is being utilized and the second
is utilized when the first is emptied so there is no stopping on the
line, the first bin is then sent to the stockroom for replenishment.
Our system eliminates this as the Chassis Assembly Pallet is kited in
the stockroom area only. Only one location of inventory in the
factory, this cuts inventory in half compared to Kanban. The kited
pallet is immediately pushed down the assembly conveyor line for
physical assembly then burn-in and or shipping. |
